Should Covid treatment be made a part of Day-Care? Insurance companies should consider this, so that every patient gets his right to a timely treatment.

Covid has not only affected our health, it has also made us helpless financially. Sources of income have become limited and have reduced, while everything else has become costly. As such, anyone who tests positive for Covid in such a situation has to face a double attack, as Covid treatment can be very expensive. This is the reason why everyone is keen on taking insurance these days, so that they are not financially overburdened, should the need arise. However, many such instances have come to light, and especially many such incidences are being seen in Mumbai where people with even mild Covid symptoms are getting hospitalized, due to which the beds are blocked in the hospitals, and patients with severe symptoms have to run around to find beds The main reason for this is the rule made by insurance companies which says that only patients who have been admitted in the hospital for one day will get the insurance money, that means, the claim will be passed only after a person has been admitted to the hospital for 24 hours.

Needless to say, anyone who is paying insurance premiums would want that the insurance is useful to him when the time and need arises, which is also his right. When it comes to rules, a common man sees no harm in spending an entire night in the hospital if it means that his claim will be passed. In that moment, his focus is on getting financial help for himself, and it will never cross his mind that this is going to block a bed.

A statement has been given by Mumbai BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, which confirms that due to such rules of the insurance company, people are unnecessarily forced to get admitted to the hospital. As a matter of fact, several citizens had been complaining that they were not able to get beds in private hospitals. On investigating, the matter of the insurance companies’ rules came to light. The BMC Commissioner has asked that insurance companies should be advised to pass the claims for OPD patients as well so that people do not have to get admitted unnecessarily. This way, those in need will be able to get beds and others will be able to get their insurance claims.

Therefore, the best option is to put Covid in the Day-Care category. Day Care procedure is essentially a surgery or medical procedure that is completed in less than 24 hours and does not require a long hospital stay. This does not mean that it reduces the cost of treatment. From medical tests to medicines and the entire procedure, the cost is very expensive and hence many day-care procedures have been included in the insurance coverage, such as – cataract surgery, corrective surgery, surgeries related to nasal sinuses, chemotherapy and radiotherapy related to ear, tongue, face, skin and bones, but till now Covid has not been included in it, even though it is an epidemic, and just as many types of help and concessions are provided to the people under Disaster Management, similarly it should also be considered to include Covid in the Day Care process and settling the claims. In a circular recently issued by the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India to the Insurance firms, it has been stated that the claim should be passed considering the antibody cocktail therapy treatment of Covid under emergency use authorization. So why not do the same for patients with mild symptoms? Do not delay, sign this petition and make this campaign a success …..
